The Missanabie Cree First Nation (“the First Nation”)
is a distinct group of the Mushkegowuk Cree whose traditional
territory is centred in and around Missinaibi Lake, Dog Lake,
and Wabatongushi Lake. The Missanabie Cree have used and
occupied the lands and rich resources in this area since time
immemorial to the present to hunt, fish and trap for food and
ceremonial purposes and to provide for the cultural, spiritual
and economic well-being of their people.. |

June 27, 2008 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR MCFN BAND MEMBERS
THE MCFN ANNUAL GATHERING will take place from AUGUST 16-23, 2008 at Island View Camp.
A PRESENTATION on the Land Transfer will be on the agenda for the Gathering.
THE REFERENDUM WILL TAKE PLACE AFTER THE GATHERING, AND WILL BE A MAIL-IN VOTE PROCESS.
DETAILED INFORMATION PACKAGES ON THE LAND TRANSFER AGREEMENT will be sent to all band members before the Gathering takes place. The package will contain information on the history of MCFN’s efforts to secure a land base, challenges that we have overcome, and other issues relating to the transfer. Maps, the referendum process, and a section on frequently asked questions will also be included.
Band members who are eligible to vote are reminded to keep their contact information current with Ted Ouellet, Registration Administrator.
